Currahee Club’s Director of Adventure, Ty Wheeler, oversees the more intense outdoor recreational opportunities. The area surrounding Currahee Club offers white-water rafting, skydiving, mountain biking and hiking - all of which are Ty's specialties.
He also can arrange a myriad of activities within the comforts of Currahee Club. From an all-night camp-out for children in the community’s custom-made teepees – complete with roasted marshmallows and ghost stories – to a private ride at sunset in the new Currahee Club hot air balloon. Ty ensures Currahee Club members and guests find the level of adventure they’re seeking.
"I gently remove members from their comfort zone to get them to attempt new experiences,” Ty says. “It’s rewarding to take someone on their first fishing or white-water rafting trip, arming them with the skills and confidence they need to be able to get out there and do it on their own,” he adds.
Prior to working at Currahee Club, Ty served for seven years with U.S. Air Force Special Operations - the most elite military rescue unit in the world - where he provided medical support and evacuation to the elite S.E.A.L and Delta Force teams. Recently, Ty decided that with four small children, it was time to come back home to Georgia. Luckily, Currahee Club gives Ty the opportunity to pursue all the adventure he craves.
